Redeemable NFTs – how do they work?
Redeemable NFTs (rNFTs) can be thought of as forward contracts for physical things, programmed within smart contracts. Rather than tokenizing physical assets themselves, redeemable NFTs tokenize the right to receive a physical asset within a given time period.
By leveraging a common token standard, rNFTs can take advantage of existing web3 infrastructure and can be held, transferred or traded like any other NFT. This means your buyers can exchange or transfer the right to receive your product, right up to the point they decide to redeem it.
Royalties
Boson Protocol gives you access to edit your rNFT collection on Opensea, and enables you to charge secondary royalties on OpenSea and on other marketplaces that support EIP-2981.
Token Gating

How a Boson transaction works
- Primary sale
Boson enables you to easily set-up and customise your product listings to address your needs. Sell via your own Web3 storefront or sell via the Boson Protocol marketplace. - Secondary sale
After a user commits to the offer, and receives the redeemable NFT, they are able to trade and transfer this rNFT on the secondary market. Boson Protocol gives you access to your rNFT collection on OpenSea, and enables you to charge secondary royalties on OpenSea and on marketplaces that support EIP-2981. - Redemption & Fulfilment
Once a user redeems their NFT for the physical item, the fulfilment period of the exchange begins. After you fulfil the delivery of the item, and a grace period has expired, you will receive payment for the product. The dApp provides you with an integrated Web3 chat solution, to easily handle customer support.
