Boson has expanded its vision from a protocol– enabling decentralized commerce for humans; to: a metasystem (a system of systems) – enabling the decentralized exchange of any thing, for humans and AI.
By thing we mean any physical real-world asset from standard commerce assets to high-value physical assets, real estate and commodities. By AI we mean extending Boson to support the emerging paradigm of AI agents.
This expansion represents not just an evolution in scope, but a step-change in ambition – from disrupting centralized commerce platforms to building the decentralized infrastructure for bringing onchain all the world’s physical real-world assets into a single, liquid, tokenized market; and enabling these assets to be securely traded by humans and AI agents.
According to the thesis we developed with blockchain economist Prof. Jason Potts, once all physical assets are brought onchain with the same reliable and deterministic properties as native onchain assets, a new computable economy will emerge—unlocking an exponential increase in complexity and wealth.

Extending Boson from commerce to all physical assets
Boson Protocol’s original vision was to be Web3’s decentralized commerce layer- enabling fair exchange within commerce, without the need for extractionary intermediaries like Amazon.
Having successfully completed the build of Boson Protocol, that vision has expanded to enable the decentralized exchange of any thing.
Boson comprises two conceptual components: the Boson Core Tokenisation Layer, and the Boson Exchange Protocol. For exchanging high-value assets, Fermion Protocol has been developed. Fermion is a separate protocol with a separate token, built on the Boson Core Tokenisation Layer.
All transactions on Fermion drive fees to Boson and value to the $BOSON token. As a core part of the Boson Metasystem, Fermion extends the demand and utility of $BOSON.
In contrast to Boson’s optimistic exchange protocol, Fermion implements a version of the verified custodial exchange mechanism, long used in the financial sector to exchange physical real-world assets such as stock and bond certificates. The Fermion exchange mechanism uses trusted verifiers and custodians to secure high-value physical assets.
In this way, Fermion enables the fractional tokenization and verified exchange of all high-value physical assets; beginning with high-value commerce and expanding to real estate and commodities markets.
The combination of Boson and Fermion enables the Boson Metasystem to tokenize and securely exchange any physical RWA from standard commerce assets to high-value physical assets, real estate and commodities.
Extending Boson from humans to humans and AI
As we enter “The Post Web” era, where AI agents will increasingly intermediate commerce on behalf of humans, Boson Protocol is building the foundational infrastructure layer for agentic AI commerce—enabling autonomous agents to reliably execute physical world transactions in a trust-minimized way.
Why AI needs crypto
While humans can rely on reputation and legal systems, AI agents require cryptographically verifiable guarantees about transaction outcomes.
